"Mediterranean trees"

by Ana Gaman

This series was born in Spain, while I was traveling on the Costa Brava. I was staying at a house with a terrace overlooking the sea. I started observing the horizon line, where the sea met the land. I quickly sketched the first of the series of Mediterranean tree illustrations – l’olivier. I was inspired by the clear distinction of sea and land and decided to use this line throughout all the illustrations, creating a strong visual element. I also loved playing with the illusion of background and foreground: the hair of the girl also represents an island on the sea. After that, it became natural to extend the series to the orange girl and the avocado girl. And who knows, maybe more trees will be added to the series.
