Erin Kendal

Aussie Surface Pattern Designer based in Portugal

erinkendal.com

G’day! I’m Erin Kendal, an Aussie surface pattern designer now based in Lisbon, Portugal.

I have two young boys so I’m naturally drawn to creating kid-friendly prints. I love the challenge of using a limited colour palette and simple motifs to create patterns that feel uncomplicated but still interesting!

Creating prints for kids is a balance of keeping it fun and whimsical, while still appealing to the parents actually buying them. I do this through colour and embracing my hand-drawn imperfections.

This restraint also makes my work practical to produce and why boutique kids brands license my prints for swimwear, apparel, and accessories.

While my focus nowadays is on teaching other surface pattern designers to build their businesses, I still love to collaborate with brands and see my prints out in the world.

Karina Duncan

Textile Designer based in Portugal

karinaduncan.co.uk

Hey, I’m Karina, a textile designer who creates storytelling prints for swim-resort brands that want to build recognisable, stand-out collections.

Working from my sunny studio in Northern Portugal, my process combines both hand-drawn and digital techniques.

From painted florals, conversationals and tropicals, my prints are made for swim-resort brands who love fun, feminine designs that are perfect for a summer escape.

What I love most about designing for swim and resortwear is that feeling of escapism that’s tied to it. At home, we might dress a little more plainly, but on holiday, we become a different version of ourselves. We lean into colour, playfulness and pieces that feel special, and I’ve always been really drawn to that energy.

I love creating prints that help shape the mood and identity of my clients collections. That doesn’t necessarily mean loud or overly bold prints. A memorable print collection can still feel calm and elevated while creating a strong sense of emotion and storytelling around a brand.

I offer both a Custom Print Service and ready-made designs through my Swim-Resort Print Shop, making it easy for brands at different stages and budgets to find a process that suits them.

Jo Jiménez

Chilean Visual Artist & Illustrator

jojimenez.com

Jo Jiménez has spent more than 10 years dedicated to textile and print design, working with clients as Next, Olympia Le-Tan, Farm Rio and more, standing out for the use of bold and vibrant colors that transform each product into a unique and playful work of art.

For the swimwear print designs, the artist’s idea was to create pieces that could transition seamlessly from everyday wear to a summer day by the beach or pool. That is why each piece is reversible and versatile.

Rachel Parker

Surface Pattern Designer based in Northamptonshire, UK

rachelparkerdesigns.co.uk

I’m Rachel Parker, a surface pattern designer based in Northamptonshire in the UK. For
me, ‘Surface Pattern Design’ covers all manner of products, from stationery to fabric, from furniture to swimwear…if you can enhance your product with a pattern then I will happily design it! My work always begins life as a sketch, whether that’s on paper in my sketchbook or digitally on my iPad. It’s so important to me to retain that artistic hand-writing, especially now in the age of AI. I try to think carefully about the brands that I partner with, and love to work with people who share my values in sustainability and creating quality products that are designed to last. I believe that a good design is worth taking time over.

In the last few years I’ve been very fortunate to partner with Australian swimwear brand
Sheila May Swim which has been an absolute joy. These ladies are not afraid of colour, so they’re right up my street! The entire range is designed to mix and match, resulting in endless fun combinations. To me, this playful approach to design is what gets me out of bed in the morning. Fashion should be fun, and designing for swimwear is a fantastic opportunity to go that extra mile and be bold with colour. The prints featured in this
collection are called ‘Party Spot’ and ‘Skylight’, two of my most licensed designs that have found homes in places such as bedding, doormats, fabric and picnic rugs. To see these two prints come to life on swimwear has been the icing on the cake! Sheila May Swim has a very loyal customer base who return to them time and time again because the swimwear is designed to make them feel good, whatever their shape or size. Such a gorgeous company – more collaborations like this please!

Tamara M Olmos

Textile and Surface Designer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina

tamaramolmos.com

I’m Tamara, a textile and surface designer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I started my design journey working in-house for fashion and home-textile manufacturers, where I put my design and technical knowledge into practice—from initial concept to final product. That experience taught me invaluable lessons about every step of the manufacturing process.

Today, I work as a freelancer, running my own design studio and helping brands and small businesses stand out through thoughtfully designed collections.

My design style is versatile, leaning towards the conceptual, abstract, and organic. My creative process is equally flexible; I adapt it to each project’s specific needs. Some designs start digitally, others evolve through hand exploration, depending on what the concept demands and what the brand’s aesthetic calls for. I draw inspiration from everywhere—nature, travel, cultural patterns, and personal experiences.

Even though my heart lies in woven fabric design, print pattern design -particularly swimwear prints- has been a wonderful and unintentional discovery. What began as client work has grown into genuine passion for this specific industry and its unique challenges. Seeing my designs on final products, becoming part of someone’s summer memory, is deeply rewarding.

Jessica Nielsen

Pattern Designer & Landscape Designer

jessicanielsen.nl

Hi! I’m Jessica Nielsen, pattern designer and landscape designer.
All my work is inspired by nature. I like to ‘translate’ leaves, flowers, structures into stylised and colourful shapes that I can use in my pattern designs. I create ‘simple’ and powerful designs without unnecessary lines or shapes that way challenging viewers to use their imagination and find their own meaning in my designs.
With years of experience creating illustrations and patterns inspired by nature I now also design outdoor spaces. With my garden and landscape designs I can bring my vision to life in a way that invites people to connect directly with nature. I aim for a harmonious balance between functionality and beauty, applying native plants where possible and sustainable materials.
