I’m Anna Black — a Scottish surface designer based in beautiful Portugal, where I now live with my husband and kids. I specialise in crafting elegant designs with a vintage feel, and my goal is to bring that timeless elegance into modern homes across the world. I’m fascinated by pattern history and am particularly inspired by Arts & Crafts, Chinoiserie and Indian Floral patterns where a range of plants, animals and birds are common themes.

Complementing my appreciation of heritage designs, I love to use traditional techniques as an integral part of my workflow. My patterns are completely hand drawn and laid out on paper before being finished digitally, giving them an authentic touch that my clients love.

The main focus for my business has been on licensing my designs for wallpaper, but they are also ideal for other product categories such as soft furnishings, stationery and fashion. I relish collaborating with clients to make unique collections, so if you’re interested in working with me, let’s connect!

Pattern Designer & Illustrator

I’m Karen Mattiazzo, a Graphic and Surface Pattern designer from Brazil based in England, illustrating motifs like animal skulls, teal jungles, crystals, tropical forests, and runes here and there. I like illustrating bold, mystical, enchanting, and vibrant themes to add a touch of magic to any surface. I print Monstera Skulls and Tropical Magic collections on paper and fabric to sell on my online shop and would love to be commissioned to design something bespoke for a brand, either to print on the product range I offer or your own products.

I have collections available for licensing on my portfolio, from lunar moths and lavender stems to full moons and antlers. Usually, collections have two variations of colours and 8 to 12 designs of the same motif varying in complexity to make it a consistent collection when printed on a series of surfaces. I believe my patterns match well with paper and fabric, stationery and bandanas and scarves with a repeat print with or without skulls can brighten up a space or an outfit.

Print & Pattern Designer & Illustrator

mariadom.com

I’m a designer/illustrator of prints and patterns & a copyright educator who lives in Lisbon. As a creator who loves exploring new styles as much as protecting intellectual property, I found myself shifting my business model from microstocks to licensing. I feel it’s a more transparent & safe way for my clients and me. When I first started enquiring about a proper license to use my art I realized how poorly some platforms inform both artists and buyers regarding licenses they offer, which results in misuse and copyright violations that could have been avoided should both sides be fully informed by the ‘middleman’ that sells the art.

Now people started coming to me directly more often for licensing and I’m really proud of the progress I have made over the past 2 years since I chose to represent myself. For example, I’ve collected some useful instruments for a smooth and effective partnership, like an accessible library, which is also a playground for my client’s projects, a contract with very clear terms, and a platform to help us keep track of the process because that is all about respect and care for my clients, my fellow entrepreneurs.

I prefer licensing because in my experience it allows a company to show a person behind their product, a real artist. It always adds value and makes it unique, especially in the growing use of AI-generated content. Artists retain copyright over their work, making direct licensing the ideal way to adapt their art to a company’s needs. It offers enhanced control and flexibility. Also, if you partner with an artist you get to know about all their new collections & updates first, and there is always an option of customizing/editing any illustration of choice.

I have long-term licensing partnerships with big companies in different industries such as textiles, mobile accessories, wallpapers, etc. I dream of having my art on accessories such as silk scarves, twilli, or bags. I love it when the collaboration starts from licensing and grows out to be a whole partnership with creating not just prints but also the style, the branding, and the appeal, I’m looking forward to seeing my ideas come into reality, so reach out if it resonates with you.
