Hi! My name is Liz Christiansen – a surface pattern designer and artist from Brisbane, Australia. I have arrived at surface pattern design after over 20 years of experience as a graphic and branding designer, which has moved me to experiment with my own creative boundaries and artwork, bringing all the design and branding experience with me to the world of patterns.
As a multidisciplinary designer, I work across mixed media – using collage, paint, drawing, hand lettering, and digital design as a part of my pattern-making process. Focused on creating vibrant, bold, layered graphics, I am inspired by bright colours, natural and urban environments – seeing the organic, abstract, positive, and negative shapes and bringing these to my work. With a passion for sharing knowledge, I also teach a typography and design subject at university. And when I’m not designing or making art, you can find me with my kids, my dogs, or on my roller skates… Or looking through vintage ephemera, discovering pieces for my next collage!
I am available for licensing artwork and collaborations. My experience as a graphic designer has resulted in an exceptional ability to interpret a brief, so if you have something in mind – get in touch to see if we can create something amazing together.
