Cecilia Battaini

Illustrator, Surface Designer & Traveling Artist from Milan, Italy

ceciliabattaini.com

My name is Cecilia Battaini and I’m an illustrator, surface designer and traveling artist from Milan, Italy. Here where is located my cozy studio, filled with plants and with my original illustrations just everywhere, and when I’m not drawing in my place you can find me traveling around the world. With my sketchbook and pencils by my side, I search for plants, flowers and wildlife to use as inspiration for my whimsical patterns and illustrations. Flowers, mushrooms, plants, veggies and fruits, animals, sea life… nature has always inspired me since I was a child, and today the wonders of the natural world are at the heart of my artistic creations.

I began drawing flowers during my teenager years, when I was going through very hard times. It was a sort of therapy that helped me reconnecting with myself and finding some peace of mind. I began seeing it as an expression of my inner garden, as I love calling my inner world, where I imagine that my feelings, dreams, memories and emotions give life to a thriving garden. Soon this became my ultimate goal – helping others to grow their inner garden as well, whatever creating artworks featured on products that will bring joy and beauty to your homes and daily lives or hosting botanical illustration workshops that will help you relax and reconnect with your inner world.

Every single one of my hand-drawn sketches is hand-drawn with colored pencils, then scanned onto my laptop, and finally I use Affinity to arrange all of them in patterns and complex illustrations. I mainly work with brands, licensing my existing artworks or creating custom art, and my creations are featured on many different products, from wallpapers to phone cases, from greeting cards to wall art. In the most recent years I took further my goal to help others to grow their inner garden as well, and I started hosting both in person and online workshops about botanical illustrations, which also led me to publish a Skillshare page and launching my Art Garden Club on Patreon.

Milena Barbalinardo

Italian Surface Pattern Designer based in Ireland

milenabarbalinardo.com

Hello, I’m Milena. I’m an Italian surface pattern designer based in Ireland, and I specialize in hand-drawn wallpaper.

I’ve loved drawing since I was a child. I used to spend hours sketching freely, and this work still brings me back to that feeling. Most of my designs begin by hand. My sketchbooks are always around, and my iPad is usually in my bag, ready whenever an idea comes to me.

I’m drawn to irregular lines and subtle imperfections that give a pattern movement and personality. I think of wallpaper as something immersive. It surrounds you, so I pay close attention to rhythm, scale, and how a repeat moves across a wall.

Nature inspires much of what I do. I pay attention to its shapes, textures, and movement, and I bring those elements into my work through line and color. Color plays an important role in my process and helps define the atmosphere of each design.

For me, wallpaper is a way to tell a story and give character to a space.
