Hi, I’m Darya, a surface pattern designer and artist from Boston, USA. I studied textile design at the University of Massachusetts and now share my passion for patterns, textiles, and color through design work and watercolor painting, as well as on the YouTube channel synonymous with my brand name – Pattern Talent. I’m beginning to offer classes in textile design as well!
My artwork usually starts with paper, paint, and ink – I’m hanging on to traditional media in this digital world. However, I work digitally as well, having pumped a serious skillset as a former in-house designer for home decor, stationery, and apparel. My art is a combination of sophisticated and quirky, with each one of these taking over from time to time, it’s a mashup of illustration, painting, and design.
I love exploring unusual motifs and topics in my patterns, but I also have a soft spot for classical art such as engravings and botanical illustrations. I’m inspired by all things floral, seasonal changes, old books and houses, countryside living, animals – especially the quirky ones! I’m also an avid watercolor plein air painter. My favorite design baby is a collection of square silk scarves, but I enjoy creating for a variety of markets such as wallpaper, fabric, kids’ apparel and so much more. I believe I have several art & design personalities living in me and my portfolio is extremely versatile.
